Amazon LEO: 2025 Year in Review and 2026 Outlook
What milestones did Amazon Project Kuiper achieve in 2025? What prospects does 2026 hold for Amazon LEO?
In 2025, Amazon finally accomplished what we have all been anticipating for years: it ceased being a “hypothetical project of the future” and emerged as the “satellite operator of tomorrow,” complete with a launch manifest and a go-to-market strategy. Until April 2025, the project consisted primarily of intentions, declarations, and presentations. Today, it boasts a solid contract portfolio, manufacturing infrastructure, a calendar of scheduled events, and its own competitive strategy.
The Path to Orbit
The journey began on April 28, 2025, when an Atlas V rocket carried the first full batch of 27 satellites into orbit—a launch Amazon marked as the transition from prototypes to system deployment. It is important to note that this wasn’t just about “27 satellites in space,” but the infrastructure behind them. Amazon demonstrated a streamlined “factory-to-pad-to-orbit” pipeline. Satellites are assembled in Kirkland, Washington, moved to a specialized processing center at Cape Canaveral, and then delivered to the launch sites of various providers.
